Our first week back from the Holiday Break has been challenging due to wintry conditions and frigid temperatures.  The weather has made conditions challenging for our operations staff as they continue to meet transportation, facility, and food service needs.

For example, considerable effort has gone into maintaining our transportation fleet and driving district vehicles not only on days we have been in session but also to and from already scheduled events taking place out-of-district.  Bus and van drivers along with everyone in our transportation department have been VERY busy to help maintain the district's vehicle fleet!

Elementary, middle, and high school lunch times remain unchanged on days school has been delayed, so our Food Service staff members always seem to be preparing to serve our children!  On days school is delayed, our Food Service staff continues to prepare as if we are on a regular schedule.  This provides an element of predictability on days when students are already experiencing changes in their routine.

Our maintenance staff members often use time when school is not in session to complete projects and attend to additional tasks not typically part of the hustle and bustle of regular days.  Beginning early in the morning, our maintenance and custodial staff members have still been covering events, plowing snow, and ensuring sidewalks and walkways are safe for students, parents, visitors, and community members.

Of course and across the board, all of these tasks are part of their jobs, but ALL our employees are so important to the operation of the school and in maintaining a positive and safe learning environment that they often don't receive credit for a job well done.  The business of school would not continue without them!  The challenging conditions of late have only highlighted just how fantastic these workers are and their investment in our school and community.  As essential members of the Milton-Union team, we are so appreciative of their extra efforts and work behind-the-scenes to keep the school district on track.  Thank you!
