After careful consideration, we have decided that students will keep their district-issued devices this summer.
Why? First, even though most of our students and families have at least some technology resources in their homes, there are still several children in the school-community without access, so maintaining devices over the summer increases the likelihood for students to stay connected. Also, there continues to be some discussion and speculation around the state regarding how Ohio schools will open for the 2020-21 school year. With guidance from Governor DeWine’s Office and Ohio Department of Health, should Ohio school personnel expect a traditional start to the new school year, will there be increased precautions in August, or will remote learning continue at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year? By allowing students to keep and use devices over the summer, teachers will be able to engage children in remote learning quickly and efficiently this August if necessary.
Although tech support will continue through the summer, students and families should not expect the same level of availability or response time from our Technology Department staff due to normal summer duties and priorities. However, all digital use/traffic on student devices will continue to be monitored and tracked with content filtering through district technology tools.
