The following was presented by Mr. Luke Kinninger in summarizing final outcomes of student participation in 2017-18 Science Fair activities...
On May 12, three
students from Milton-Union Schools presented projects at the State
Science Day held at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. To qualify at this level, students had to earn a superior rating at
two previous science fairs. Individuals who presented at the
State Science Day this year were Maddie Stasiak (eighth grade), Abby
Hissong (senior), and Sydney Dohrman (senior). All three earned a
superior rating at State Science Day. Maddie Stasiak also won first place
in Chemical Sciences and $500.00 from the American Chemical Society.
Abby Hissong received the following awards: First place for Outstanding
Project in Plant Pathology and $50.00 sponsored by The Ohio State
University; the Statistical Analysis Award sponsored by the American
Statistical Association; first place Ohio Soybean Bioscience
Award and $1,000 sponsored by The Ohio Soybean Council Foundation. Sydney
Dohrman won the Future Nurse Scientist Scholarship ($1,500, renewable) from
Kent State University.
This was an amazing year of science success for Milton-Union students, and
sadly, this closes the chapter of Science Fair participation for both Sydney and
Abby. Their hard work and dedication has been greatly appreciated over the
years. Please feel free to congratulate these students during graduation, eighth grade promotion, etc.
